Where I’d Spend My Money | Intro

One of the first things I ask my clients during the Programming (Information Gathering) Phase is what types of items do you like to invest in? Even if you have a very generous sum you are willing to spend on a renovation or furnishings project, undoubtedly there are things you value more than others. For some, decorative lighting or hardware is a “splurge” they love to make. Other clients want to invest in custom upholstery with a frame built to last over 20 years that can be recovered for a lifetime. These choices and preferences are so personal and unique to each person—as a designer, I would never presume that your priorities are similar to mine.

Also as a designer, I definitely have opinions on the items I consider “luxury” and don’t mind spending on. However, as an advocate for my clients and using my skillset to help my clients feel their best in the spaces I help to create, my job is to help you identify the pieces that will make your heart feel full every time you walk by them. If you were to replicate all of the things you admire from your neighbor’s home, I guarantee those things won’t bring you the same joy in your home.

Objects bring us joy when we connect to them emotionally. A special texture that reminds us of the time we went with our family on that spontaneous beach trip, a visual motif that reminds us of the painting our aunt used to have in her living room…

I’ll be sharing the items I love to spend my extra money on, and why, in the coming weeks.

I’m so glad you joined me here!
